MOLLY SANDHU

Born in Pune, India, Molly now lives and works out of Mumbai. She has studied for six years about the various forms of art at the Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai and her work has been selected and exhibited at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai and other galleries.

Molly was drawn to painting from an early age and is a full time artist painting huge canvases at her studio in Mumbai. She has been an academic and has been invited as a guest lecturer in Art and can read and write four languages. Her inspiration stems from the words of the Sufi poet Rumi and Kahlil Gibran which take her paintings to a different realm of sensibility. Having been brought up in a place where form is the norm, Molly looked Westward for inspiration. Her paintings have evolved from painting portraits to abstract forms to abstract paintings without any form. Molly has been greatly inspired by the works of Kandinsky, Rauschenberg, Pollock, De Kooning, Paul Klee and the bright colours of Van Gogh and Frida Kahlo, so much so that she achieves unique effects with vibrant and bold colours. In her works one can see the blend of the bright Indian colours and Western freedom.

A strong believer in the power of spirituality, Molly feels that each painting is in fact a reflection of the soul of the universe.
